It is difficult to grasp the degree of popularity that Oppenheimer enjoyed as a writer in the early part of the twentieth century. Much of the action of this novel takes place in two very different nightclubs. The first is a Public House run by Fred Miller in the East End of London. Second, the fabulous private club and dining establishment, run by the smooth and well-connected Ordino.
