"This book is an attempt to recreate faithfully with words and photographs the day Manolete was killed. However, just as the pictures used to illustrate how Islero developed from a calf to a bull could not actually be of that very Miura, so not all the photographs of Manolete and Dominguín needed to tell the story were taken that fatal day. Enough photographs of the actual corrida in Linares simply do not exist; therefore some supplementary photographs taken on other days had to be used."--Author's note.
